Sculpture at Broadmead

Eligibility:

The exhibition is open to visual artists aged 18 and older with public art experience commensurate with the project’s scope. Members of the Broadmead Board of Trustees, staff, and their immediate family members and selection panelists and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate. In addition to finished pieces, proposed new works will also be considered based on examples of previous public work.

Selection Process:

The Broadmead Sculpture Advisory Committee, a sub-committee of the Arts Council, will review all applications and make a final selection of the works to be exhibited. The Advisory Committee’s selection panel is comprised of individuals chosen for their professional experience in public art, curation, and landscape design

Artwork Selection Criteria:

Proposed artworks will be evaluated based on the following:

  • Quality of work and originality of expression
  • Scale of the artwork commensurate for an out of doors environment
  • Ability of the artist to complete the work based on comparable experience
  • Durability of work regarding structural integrity, resistance to weather, and public safety
  • Appropriateness of the work for display in a public venue

Artist Responsibilities:

Artists selected to exhibit their sculpture will be responsible for:

  • Signing a contract before the first portion of the grant is disbursed
  • Transporting, Installing, de-installing, and employment of any crew is the sole responsibility of the artist
  • Being available for information requests, educational interviews, etc.
  • Removing their work promptly at the end of the exhibit
  • Maintaining applicable liability insurance for themselves or any subcontractors
  • Work in cooperation with the Project Curator

Copyright and Sales:

Participating artists retain sole ownership and copyright of the artwork but must agree to grant Broadmead a royalty-free, world-wide, perpetual license to use any depictions of the work for educational, documentary and non-commercial promotional/marketing purposes. Any sale of artwork will involve only the artist and the purchaser.

Site Visits/Site Plans:

Artists are encouraged to make a site visit in advance of submitting their applications and can visit the Broadmead campus any day between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm except on holidays. Upon arrival, please follow the signs to the Community Center, park and check in with the reception desk on either the ground level or the first floor. Maps with approximate sculpture locations will be available at Reception.
